The Institute of Reproductive Grief Care educates and equips healthcare professionals to provide evidence-based, trauma-informed, patient-centered care for those experiencing reproductive loss. Reproductive loss, including miscarriage, abortion, stillbirth, and infertility, can be devastating, and healthcare professionals are often at the front lines of responding to those experiencing reproductive grief. Our Reproductive Grief Care for Healthcare Professionals course is an introduction to standards of grief care for physicians, nurses, and other medical providers. This course equips learners to recognize the impact of reproductive loss, respond effectively both individually and organizationally, and help patients begin to cope with their loss experiences. Participants will learn a variety of effective communication strategies, cultural and spiritual competency skills, and options for memorialization to positively impact the grief trajectory for the bereaved.

 This course examines women’s experiences with communications during a miscarriage and contrasts them against typical caregiver behaviors. It will provide a glimpse into their own reflections on miscarriage communications based on personal experiences.

Objectives:

• Distinguish communication approaches that facilitate emotional healing rather than
  intensify emotional pain in those enduring a miscarriage.
• Utilize the learned communicative strategies that help to counteract the emotional trauma that often accompanies a
  miscarriage.

To better assist our clients and patients and to protect against vicarious trauma, it is helpful to gain a deeper understanding of our own grief history. This course offers self-guided reflections and exercises that will broaden our appreciation of the uniqueness of our own and other’s grief journey. Obstacles to grieving, grieving styles, practical ways to memorialize loss, and the ability to grow through loss are also covered as we explore how to grieve well.

This course offers continuing education contact hours for nurses. Provider approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing, Provider Number CEP 16061 for 1.00 contact hours.

Compassion fatigue and burnout often deprive healthcare providers of altruistic motivations and attributes that initially attracted them to professional caregiving. Aside from the recommendations for a healthier lifestyle, little has been offered to assist those in caring occupations to nurture their empathetic resiliency
and enduring passion for helping others in need. This course helps care providers reclaim their compassionate zeal by uncovering factors that can derail empathetic caregiving; it also provides practical applications that are beneficial both personally and professionally.

This training is recommended for use together with the Governing Essentials manual. 

The goal of this presentation is to educate others on how to become a licensed adoption agency within a pregnancy center, utilize best practices when working with clients, and how to facilitate healthy adoptions for the whole family unit. We will dive deeper into the flow of adding an adoption agency, policies that help us run smoothly, and how to support healthy open adoptions.

With the rise of fatherhood programs in Pregnancy Help Centers, many questions surround integrating dads into the services we provide and seeing dads successfully transfer from the peer-counseling room into a parenting program. This breakout session teaches attendees to examine their various "touchpoints" with dads by showing how Advice and Aid Pregnancy Centers leverages their time with dads to create meaningful ministry moments.
