How Prolifers Defended the Pregnancy Help Centers in Virginia

You can see billboards in Virginia sponsored by the local pregnancy help centers that read: “Pregnant? Scared? Need Help? Call Us!”  Abortion advocates somehow consider this “false advertising” because the person answering the phone is not selling abortion but only giving scared, pregnant women life-affirming help!  If you spoke with the women who answer these calls, you would learn that many serve in a Pregnancy Help Center (PHC) precisely because they know the fear caused by an unexpected pregnancy.  Some know the bitter anguish that follows abortion.  All are motivated by neighborly love.

Planned Parenthood, the world’s largest abortion business, and NARAL Pro Choice nonetheless took this charge of “false advertising” to the General Assembly of Virginia and lobbied for HB 452, a bill that would regulate pregnancy help centers in a way that impugns their reputations and diminishes their effectiveness.

You can be proud of how the Christian community rushed to their defense.  The PHC state coalition swung into action.  State pro-family foundations, Care Net, NIFLA (National Institute for Family Life Advocates), and Heartbeat International staff met quickly to plan and mobilize an overpowering grassroots response.  It worked.  Even more, those who accused your fellow Christians with doing something false and deceptive, in their effort to help frightened young women, were exposed to have been false and deceptive in the way they brought their accusation!

During the Virginia House Subcommittee hearing, Delegate Stolle asked NARAL’s only witness, Dr. Wendy Klein of the Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center, whether the report generated by NARAL’s undercover investigation of pregnancy centers was unbiased.  She responded, “I would, uh…that is a very good question….”  She also admitted that there are “methodological flaws” in the study and that she would not change her medical practices based on such a study.  The committee rejected HB 452.
